Irish Autism Action Mobile Phone Recycling Campaign
Dublin - Wednesday, 6th October, 2010

Irish Autism Action (IAA) has teamed up with BPI Telecom to raise money for Irish families affected by autism. The mobile phone recycling campaign, launched with the support of Keith Duffy, is open to all primary and secondary schools, groups, clubs and individuals across Ireland.

As part of the new campaign any person, group, school or club who donates 85 old mobile phones will receive an Apple iTouch with camera and Grace App.

The Grace App was developed by Lisa Domican and her autistic daughter Grace with the help of App developer, Steve Troughton-Smith. The App allows people with autism, and their families, to communicate with the help of images stored on the App instead of carrying around a communications book.

“We are delighted to be working with Irish Autism Action to help raise the quality of life for individuals and their families affected by autism,” said Brian Egan, Sales Director, BPI Telecom. “We are encouraging everyone to get involved in this campaign, not just those affected by autism.”

Other rewards range from a €50 voucher in exchange for 20 mobile phones, a laptop for 100 mobile phones, all the way up to an interactive whiteboard for 300 mobile phones.
